Educational Philosophy
I believe children are discoverers and they are discovering life all the time. In the information age children are experiencing bounteous amounts of stimuli. This mass amount of information barrage upon their senses needs to be organized, quantified and utilized. I believe that teaching is a spiritual process that contributes to one’s personal path to “becoming”. To become ones better self, to become ones higher self, to be transformed into a greater being that benefits society or becoming a spark to the evolution of society by evolving oneself through discipline, study, meditation and self- reflection.
I believe that teachers must be constant seekers of knowledge and an investigator of the hearts of their students to determine the most beneficial way to impart the wisdom they have gained. Because the first step of the teacher is to subdue their own arrogance and egotism while concurrently aspiring to reach
sincerity and aptness.
I also believe that every child has the ability to construct his/her own knowledge. It is the teacher’s responsibility to help the student locate the most beneficial path to do so by creating experiences and an atmosphere of experimentation that will allow students to understand content through first mastering themselves.
As we are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. We must constantly evaluate our performance and methods and change according to our students needs. We must always keep their best academic and personal well being in mind.
" I have never encountered any children in any group who are not geniuses. There is no mystery on how to teach them. The first thing you do is treat them like human beings and the second thing you do is love them"
Dr. Asa Hilliard
